How to take a good photo

Adding photos to your listing

A good photo canĀ go a long way towards making your listing stand out amongst others. Users will browse through hundreds of listings at a time, so having a solid photo of your gear will ensure your listing has the best chance of being noticed. Below are a few pointers for making sure a photo does your gear justice!

1. Using a plain background

A plain background shows off the subject you are photographing. When you look through the camera viewfinder, force yourself to study the area surrounding your gear. Make sure nothing is in the background that will detract from your gear and its unique features!

2. Get the lighting right

Next to the subject, the most important part of every picture is the light. It affects the appearance of everything you photograph. Make sure you take photos of your gear in bright, naturally lit spaces and always ensure your lighting is front on to avoid shadows.

3. Capture the detail

Your photos should show a true version of the gear you are listing. If there are defects or imperfections, these should be captured or detailed in your description of the gear.

4. Use an action shot

Action shots are perfect for showing the potential of your gear. They are best used as a secondary shot to demonstrate how the gear has been used previously and what it is capable of.
